Paint Companies Merge / Idaho Firm to Design Airport Terminal / Firms Recognized for Safety / Union graduates Apprentices

Portland — Rodda Paint Company and Cloverdale Paint haved reached an agreement in principle to merge the two companies, according to their company chairmen.

RPC employs 350 persons, operates 41 branches in Washington, Oregon, Northern Idaho, and Alaska and a manufacturing plant in Portland.

CPI employs 650 persons, operates 65 branches in Western Canada and Washington, and four manufacturing plants in Canada.

The merged operation will operate under the Rodda name in the U.S. and under the Cloverdale name in Canada. It is intended each operation will be managed independently by existing personnel. The merger is expected to be completed before August 31, 2004.

Medford Airport to Build New Terminal

After reviewing written proposals and interviewing three qualified teams, the Jackson County Airport Selection Committee has selected CSHQA, an architectural /engineering firm and Layton Construction Company, Inc., to design and build the new terminal at the Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport. Following contract negotiations and commissioners' approval, construction is slated to begin as soon as August 2004.

Layton Construction Company, Inc. is based in Sandy, UT with a branch office in Boise, ID. Layton is ranked 102 on Engineering News Record magazine's Top Contractor list. Headquartered in Boise, with branch offices in Sacramento, Los Angeles, and Portland. CSHQA's clients include Lithia Motors, T-Mobile, Albertsons, CVS Pharmacies, and KeyBank.

ABC Recognizes Safety Efforts

Associated Builders and Contractors, the Pacific Northwest Chapter (ABC) announced 13 of its members have been recognized for outstanding safety efforts through ABC's Safety Training & Evaluation Program. Certification comes in graduating levels, with the highest designation being Platinum. Here are this year's ABC STEP award designees:

Union Graduates Apprentices

Portland — NECA-IBEW Local 48 has recently graduated 72 apprentices from the NECA-IBEW Local 48 joint electrical training center. Sixty of the graduates are now recognized as licensed commercial electricians while the remaining twelve received their license in limited energy.

The apprentices have received hundreds of hours of classroom instruction in a 54,000 square-foot facility using state of the art equipment. They have been mentored by expert instructors, each with years of hands-on experience, and undergone hours of demanding on-the-job training, in preparation for their new careers in the electrical industry.
